About Simhachalam temple:
Simhadri (Simhachalam) is the Hindu temple located in Vishakhapatnam. Here Lord Vishnu taking poojas as the name of Lord Narasimha. This temple is located at top of a hill and called as Simhachalam. Simha means lion and Achala mean hill. The temple architectural marvel and deserves high praise.
It contains the 16 pillared mandaps and the stone carved stone wheels and horses. The structure is made of the dark granite and one pillar called as tribute pillar/Kappa stambham. The Kalyana Mandapam has depicting incarnations of Lord and other is dedicated to King Narasimha
History of Simhachalam temple:
As per legend, Hiranya-Kasyapa has son Prahlad. Hiranyaksha is the brother of Hiranya-Kasyapa, which disturbs the peace on earth. Hiranyakashipu was take avenge the death of his brother Hiranyaksha from Lord Vishnu. Brahma granted him a boon that he could not kill by animal or man, neither in morning or night.
Prahlad was the devotee of Lord Vishnu and Hiranyakashipu tried in several ways to end his life. And after Narasimha killed Hiranyakashipu, Prahlad built this Simhachalam temple.
The main idol of Simhachalam is Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swami that resembles Shiva lings and combines of Varaha and Narasimha. The main idol is covered with sandalwood paste.
